HURONIA COMMUNITY FOUNDATION IS A REGISTERED CHARITY AND HOME TO OVER 80 UNIQUE FUNDS ESTABLISHED BY LOCAL CHARITIES AND COMMUNITY-MINDED PHILANTHROPISTS.
Established in 2000, Huronia Community Foundation (HCF) was incorporated as Canada’s 99th Community Foundation. We were started by a group of local individuals who had a vision to provide financial support to our community forever by developing giving strategies based on endowment funds held in perpetuity.
We are a proud member of the Community Foundations of Canada (CFC) national network which provides support for Canada’s 191 community foundations. Together we help Canadians invest in making our communities better places to live, work and play. A Community foundation plays a crucial role in how people give back to their communities. We connect people, families and companies with causes that inspire them – pooling resources, knowledge and expertise to achieve the greatest impact.
The CFC network provides more than 90% of Canadian communities with access to a community foundation and stewards combined assets of more than $6.2 billion. Collectively we have put hundreds of millions back into communities across Canada.
HCF, as well as other foundations and charities, pools our funds with the Toronto Foundation. The combined investment of over $449 million (Y/E March 31, 2020) allows us to take advantage of Toronto Foundation’s investment strategy, professional money managers and enhanced buying power while maintaining ownership of our endowed assets. With a targeted real average annual investment return of 5% (or 5% after inflation), we are able to meet the granting needs of our Fundholders as well as maintain the value of the capital, all within acceptable risk parameters.

HCF has granted over $3.5M on behalf of our Fundholders back to registered Canadian charities across our Southern Georgian Bay Area and beyond. We are committed to listening, learning and working in partnership with our local communities and we invite our Fundholders to join us.

By doing so you can make your fund the centre of your charitable efforts and have the confidence of knowing that all of the back office work will be taken care of by HCF. It’s about making a difference by consciously choosing how much to give, when to give and for what purpose without having to think about it.
If you’re not ready to start your own fund, consider donating to an existing endowment fund. All individuals or corporations can donate online via our secure HTTPS webform which is PCI-DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard) compliant so that we can securely process credit cards and handle payment information. We also accept cheques and securities, see all our donation options. All qualified donations will be given a charitable tax receipt.
The Emergency Community Support Fund was initially announced on April 21, 2020 by the Prime Minister of Canada. It is part of a broad series of emergency response measures by the Government of Canada.
The Fund is a $350 million emergency funding program from the Government of Canada to help charities and non-profit organizations serving vulnerable populations disproportionately impacted by COVID-19. Starting May 19, qualified donees can apply for ECSF grants via CFC and participating community foundations across Canada.
