Jas (James) Roberts was born and raised in Midland and was able to trace his roots to one of the founding families to settle in this area.
From an early age, he displayed an interest and talent for art and after graduating from Midland Penetanguishene High School, he realized his goal of studying graphic design at the Ontario College of Art.
Although the four years that he spent in Toronto at the college were very difficult financially, they provided many great family stories of how he survived.
When his life was cut short by cancer at 59, his son, Jode, and daughter, Caroline and I felt that the most meaningful tribute to him would be to help other students achieve their post-secondary dreams.
The scholarship was first given the year after his death in 1998.
