Bimbombay Memorial Fund
Established by Jane Courtemanche in memory of her son, Duncan, who took his own life after a long and difficult battle with depression. The Fund is named after the family cottage owned by Duncan’s grandparents, Jack and Sheila Courtemanche, and represents a place where Duncan spent happier times when he was young, surrounded by his grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Duncan loved his childhood summers spent visiting Midland, boating on Georgian Bay, and the unconditional acceptance he felt from his extended family.
The Fund will support initiatives to help youth who struggle with theIr identity and with the transition from school to independence, to give them hope and belief that they will find purpose and happiness in their life. It will also support suicide awareness and prevention initiatives for those who cannot see a way forward.
Duncan was a smart, sensitive and happy child who, as he grew older, faced very challenging mental health issues that took away his happiness, and eventually his life. It is my hope that his Fund will help young people facing this same difficult battle.
